MURCIELAGO / BAT
This sculpture is inspired by my fascination for the similarities I see between humans and animals. In my tradition we often contemplate these similarities and have traditionally created characters representing these ideas called ‘Nahual’. In this case I created a character in a traditional bust style that is half bat and half human. Murcielago, is the Spanish word for bat. In this sculpture I explore the visual capacity of my concept to create something that can be either human or animal and ultimately both at the same time. In addition to honoring or memorializing a specific animal, I also feel the need create images that symbolize the importance of instinct and intuition.
