Texcatlipoca
This painting Is my visual interpretation of the energy of Texcatlipoca also known as Smoking Mirror. This composition/artwork consists of several layers and is suspended from the wall itself. In the first layer (starting from back to front) I begin by using an eye in place of the mirror. The eye is also symbolic of the night as Texcatlipoca is a night character. Also found around the eye, are clouds of smoke, emanating from the eye in reference to the smoking mirror. In the second layer I honor Mictlampa, the North, tribal direction of the dead. Here, I explore duality in the form of life and death, a mirror of who we are and who we will become, representing the cycle of life. The third and final layer also represents the night and duality. In this layer, I honor the bat, creature of the night, composer of stars, pollinator, giver of life.
